The Community Food Fund

Help get food to food-insecure families in 2024!

Doublejay Farms and Fat Chance Farmstead started the Community Food Fund in 2023 with the goal of providing the food we produced to households in our area that face multiple barriers to having access to quality, local food. With the help of our community, we successfully delivered food to 10 families a week for 18 weeks in 2023!

We got a lot of positive feedback regarding the outcomes of the project, whether through interacting with the families each week at the pick up or hearing from the organizations we are connecting with (Pathways to Education and Southern Frontenac Community Services).

We are very excited to be moving forward with this project in 2024 and have added another food producer, Grains and Goods Bakery in Sydenham. This year, households will receive a weekly box of produce, a pound of ground beef and a loaf of freshly baked bread for 18 weeks! Our goal for 2024 is to expand to 14 families.

As farmers, it costs us $983.88 to provide 18 weeks of vegetables, beef and bread to each family, so we are looking to raise $14,000 in 2024.

There's two ways to contribute:

1) Add any quantity of the $30 "Community food fund" item to your shopping cart on our website when you make an order.

2) E-transfer us any amount you're comfortable with and include a note that it is for the "community food fund".

Please reach out to doublejayfarms@gmail.com if you have any questions about this initiative.
